Who we are

The Daughters of Norway has a proud history and our Grand Lodge has a detailed account in this article.

The Portland, Oregon chapter of The Daughters of Norway, named Frida Hansen Lodge #37, was founded in 1989. Many of those charter members are active in our lodge today.
We are currently 70 members strong, including 11 Officers, representing enduring female leadership and sisterhood.

Our lodge honors the pioneering Norwegian textile artist and small businesswoman named Frida Hansen. She was born in Stavanger in 1855 and lived an inspiring and creative life of repairing, creating and teaching weaving and embroidery until her passing in 1931.
